Crafty Carper - Doncaster Show

By Team AP

This really was a show not to miss end off.
Haha but really it was amazing to be able to get into a conversation with legend such as Rod Hutchinson, Terry Hearn, Julian Cundiff, Tim Paisley, while being able to talk to stars such as Ali hamidi, Simon Crow, Bill Cottam, all fantastic anglers, The show started off by giving out free magazines, Dvd's, tickets to carpin'on Show, meeting the anglers having a drink and getting some books signed!

Being Anglers Profile we bought every book >< and got them all signed except Terry's DVD, but we had a good chat with all the anglers and gained support of them all for our upcoming shows to come this year and next year, trakker was on hand showing off their new bivvy and handing out some freebies, Naturebaits and rolling baits where showing off their products and services, It was all very relaxed, at 7pm the Q&A began with the panel Simon Crow, Ali Hamidi, Julian Cundiff, Rod Hutchinson, and Tim Paisley with the microphone asking the questions as usual, Some tricky ones and good ones where asked and answered and after a good hour of Q&A the first interval and last was already present, as usual all anglers where talking to each other, standing in the room looking around was pretty fantastic hearing the different keywords coming out of the conversation of a 1000+ anglers such as....Delkim....Korda....Fox....Pop Up...Kd Rig....Chodd....Another Pint Please....Linear Fisheries...2010 was great...France, And many more but the best thing about it was you could pull out any 2 anglers and you would know what they were talking about, it really makes you feel proud to be part of an angling community that is strong in its own skills.

2nd half everyone was dead quiet listening to Terry Hearn’s Presentation, this was a fantastic power point in his previous catches at the river Thames, He showed some of his methods but also explained what the benefits of fishing the river was and the disadvantages compared to a lake, after a good 40 mins listening to him I think it really put the cherry on top for every angler, the party didn't stop there, most anglers where staying overnight at the holiday inn so as you can imagine the carp topic was going on all night throughout the hotel, really this was one not to miss even after 8 hours of travelling there and back, to be a true carp angler you need to be committed, take care guys, show the real Angler you are.

First carp session of the New Year 14/1/11

By Catch a carp (MOD)
Well following the prolonged winter snap on Thursday 13/1/11  I went and looked round a couple of lakes round Peterborough. The first one being Lovells, where I hadn't been before. There are 2 lakes, a match lake (rather like a stretch of river probably 150mtrs long by 30 mtrs wide and I was advised 12' deep) and a more conventional carp lake which was still frozen at the road end. There were 4 people fishing in 2 groups on the match lake all on the same side, none had caught or had any indication of fish. One of the guys and his girlfriend had fished overnight. Interestingly they were of the opinion the carp lake was better for catching carp while the second group had the opinion that the match lake was better and had bigger carp in since they had been moved accross by people when caught from the carp lake. No fish were showing anywhere so it looked interesting but not great odds for catching.

I then dropped by my favourite lake near Peterborough, there was no one fishing but the wind was blowing from the SW straight down the lake and in the short time I was there I saw 2 carp top. One quite large near the car park and another over in my favourite swim. There were also a number of smaller fish topping. Decision made, fish the favourite lake.
I turned up on Friday morning and saw a carp top again in my favourite swim so that made swim choice straight forward. I fired out around 30 to 40 boilies of the two sorts I'm currently using,  along the far bank and proceeded to set my rods up, casting out as they were made up. I had 2 rods out (different boilies on each rod) and was setting up the 3rd in between having a coffee when the first rod was off! Joy of joys this looked good, a 12lb common after approximately 45 minutes.

The 3rd rod was set up with a PVA bag and a fluoro pop up, fishing this over to the left of the other 2 rods. Probably an hour later I had a drop back bite and a 2lb bream fairly hooked in the mouth, so that was a first, a bream on a fluoro pop up.  Far better than nothing I thought and at least the rig was working. I later fired out another 2o to 30 boilies in case I could entice some more carp. A number of anglers had started walking round the lake deciding whether to fish on the Saturday.  In addition a further 3 anglers came to fish over night, one fished on the far bank at the top end of the lake, while 2 chaps set up to my left together with one of those huge bivies. It looked large enough to have a 50" LCD TV in. There were also another couple of guys who were having a look around and were going to bait up for tomorrow.
At this point the LH rod with the fluoro pop up,  had another  drop back bite and I thought another bream but the fish proceeded to put up a better fight than most bream do. My new friends were now watching quite interestedly, with quite a bit of banter as to what the fish was. It turned out to be another bream but this time foul hooked in the pectoral fin, well it did give a good fight! Fortunately I was able to unhook it without using the landing net.
Perhaps 45 minutes later I had another drop bite yet again on the PVA bag/ fluoro rod. Thinking bream again I started to play the fish back but again it started to fight quite well, which caused some discussion as to what it was. It turned out to be a larger bream around the 4lb mark fairly hooked, obviously it must have thought it was a carp! Not too later I packed away just as the weather turned with a quite heavy shower. Not too bad a day for around 5 hours fishing!

First trip of new year frozen off!!

By Brookie (Carp Connect)
Phoned Barston yesterday and they said parts of the lake where not frozen and we could fish no problem!!
We arrived today and brought our tickets.I drove down to the lake and the whole lake was frozen  solid no chance of fishing :(
Anyway we got our money back and headed off to find a lake that was not frozen but had no luck.
We set of to earlswood and again that was frozen apart from a small section by the dam wall.
One rod each was all we could fit in the small swim!!! after 2 hours and a cup of tea later we called it a day.
Not a great start to the year but at least we tried! Hope the weather improves soon.
