2nd Time ...............Lucky :)
My 1st blog an a new pb, its gonna be a gooden. I started fishing a new lake called fish pond farm, id only fished this lake once an the 1st time id never had so much as a beep on the alarms, so confidance was low to start but i wasnt gonna let this time beat me. I arrived at around 6pm, it was bit later than i expected due to the journey. i new i had the lake to myself an in my head new where i wanted to set up so took all my gear round an got out the marker rod. fish rarely seem to show on this lake so some of the water craft goes out the window here. after 20-30 minutes of rooting round id found a couple of clearish areas, whch is a bonus as this lake is surrounded by trees, an isnt very wide so all the branches just fall to the bottom an thats where they stay, so finding an area to start was great. I put around ten spods of hemp, corn an some chopped up 16mm mainline new garnge boilies in on 1 area an just used a mix of 16-18mm new grange an 14mm trigga ice on the other, gives 2 different spots a mix to see wots gonna get em going. i used 20lb n-gage hooklinks with size 8 kaptor curved hook on to 2.5oz running lead. After geting my rigs made up the 1st one went out bout 8-8.30pm an the next shortly followed. The bivvy went up just before it started chucking it down, so much for the weather mans 3 days of sunshine !! the wind was around 25-30km which wasnt helping with the alarms, they were turnd right down as it was. I ended up geting a brew an spent the whole 1st night again without a bleep. i thought right start of the day lets reel in an start from sctratch. I lenghtend my hooklinks to around 10 inches stripped it right back with no shrink tube or rig ring on the hair. I was on KD set up with a snow man on the boilie area an chopped boilie an plastic corn on the other, fished on the bottom. i added 2 spods an a handfull of bait to the ares an got goin again. Well all day went past an with 1 rudd i wasnt getting anything from the lake, it seemed dead. No showing all day no ripples nothing. I thought to myself keep your head, keep doin wot your doin something will happen, but as im a tinkerer i had to try somthing different to 1 rod so i went back to the old school an put on a big lump of lunchon meat an recast out bout tea time 6 pm. I sat there till 11 an couldnt keep my eyes open so decided to get in my sleepin bag for the night. As i was dozeing off all hell broke loose, my alarms were rattling off, i jumped up, couldnt find the light or the sip for the bivvy it seemd like madness, after eventualy gettint to my rod, both alarms were going, but 1 more than the other so it picked up the right hand rod an hit into something that felt huge. i new id picked up both likes an was getting in a mess but new i had to get this fish in. It took me into some snags an locked me up, great even if it comes out it will probably come off but after 10 minutes of no movment an locked in a snag it came through, i was shaking in the knees an all i could think is the lines gonna snap but after another 10 minutes of battle a lovely looking mirror was graceing my net, at last i was so happy, i secured the net on went to get my socks an a jacket. 1 of my mates came to join me the next morning at 5 so we managed to get some snaps, 21.8lb a new pb for me an a lovely orange an dark oak mirror. When my friend had arrived a couple of fish had showed an i guided him to the spot an he set up there as thats where he had wanted to go also. We had a chat an we agreed we will fish with lunchon meat on all 4 rods. It got to mid-day an i heard sum commotion from nxt to me an my friend nick was in, so as your fellow angler does i went to do the netting duties. On the bank there was another lovely oak orange mirror, but this 1 was 23.5lb, Nick was well happy as this was his new pb to, we were starting to hav a great session, an with are confidance high we expected more. I went back to my swim an had some lunch. It got a bit cloudy an looked like rain so we retreated back to are bivvys, as a couple of hours had past i was just starting to make a brew my right hand rod went, so i flickd off the kettle ran out an grabbed the rod, as i hooked into it i shouted to nick dont rush its just a baby as it didnt fight at all which was suprising after the 1st one, nick put the net under it an with it comming in within 2 minuts i wasnt expecting nick to say, ross its a good fish chap, after having a better look i was quietly thinking, its bigger than the first. After a weighing i was so happy 26.5lb id smashed my pb by 6lbs in 1 session, we got some good snaps an went about gettin the rod back out with a big smile on my face. Nick manged a couple more small commons in the night of about 3-4lbs but was all quiet again for me. The next morning i deceided to get off home, id smashed my pb an after 3 days i needed a shower. Its strange that we all go ut an spent 10-11 quid on 1 kilo of boilies, yet the simplest things work exactly the same. Come on the lunchon meat !!!
