Where to start??? Well it’s not good and it’s not bad.... To begin we would like to now fill anyone in who does not know that Daiwa are a japan based company, as many people will say "that’s so japan style" well yeah because Daiwa have been based in Japan forever!

So why the ugly and cheap look? well no one is able to say yet as we are the first actually talking about this new product and we speak the truth as all of you may already know from previous blogs and reviews, first thing to point out is the tight gap to put your rod in although this is not life sized it does not look Dangler Friendly, on a plus point is smaller in size compared to other alarms on the market you may see, next bad point is why the nasty cheap leds with coloured lenses!??? For heaven’s sake why not pay 1p more for H20 Clear Leds that are 200% brighter, that takes us on to the battery life it does have an awesome battery life for the time the battery is good and up to scratch, we could go on forever giving plus and negs but overall we are confused as to why Daiwa have made this Bite Alarm? we would say let’s wait until Mr Fairbrass reviews them but to be honest I think he will stick to Delks, read below the official overview.

We also have Peter Mohan to thank for the very first carp magazines, the BCSG publication The Carp (the No. 3 edition in June 1970 had a printed front and back cover for the first time), and later in March 1975 the more widespread CAA magazine. Both organisations had a lively and successful regional meeting structure in place by the mid 1970s as well as holding the first organised Carp Conferences – again it was Peter Mohan who spearheaded these groundbreaking events in the history of our sport.

Peter was also the controller of a number of carp waters in the west of England and for a time ran the famous Ashlea Pool syndicate where he caught a 30-pounder in 1969.

A prolific writer on all matters carp, Peter also wrote a number of books, Carp for Everyone, Carp- Step by Step, Basic Carp Fishing and Cypry – the Story of a Carp.

As a director of Linear Fisheries, which controls a number famous carp fisheries including Elstow, Peter Mohan is still very much involved in carp fishing today.

The weather here is far to hot to go fishing, so turned my hand to building some rigs and cleaning the tackle. then i start to think,( yea smell the wood burning). what really gives us an edge at the water, is it the bait?? the rigs?? how far we cast or patience. I still think its the right place at the right time, all these other things just help, the more time I spend on the bank the luckier i seem to get and yes nearly the same thing was said by gary player the golfer , but it is true, so far for the summer i have not done well on the weight side but quantity is there, not what i want really. but cooler times are on the way.
So I get to think what baits are u going to use on these rigs so busy trying, does it matter, i ask myself??? So its back to the session book, and start putting the records into the pc, with some comments of where i though i went wrong, what i did right or think i did right.
So now i start to try and put a game plan together, its like planning a soccer match except the opposition does not always do the expected.
So i have picked the water, know where on the water i want fish, i know there ae fish there, and from previous expeditions" i think i know" what baits they like. I know the rigs i am going to use have been tried and tested, so its game set and match, not likely the carp have to agree on this as well, thats when i ask myself have the carp sussed me out, when they look out and see that green van next to the water do they say, well guys hes back, look out for a combi link or a coated braid hooklink chaps but feel free to eat the freebies they good. Carp angling made to break your head in.

It was our first session on the bank fishing for Carp this year and the day ahead looked positive. The sun was shining onto the lake and a blue sky with no cloud in sight for miles!

A beautiful reservoir called Holme Grange in the countryside of Crowthorne was the destination and when we arrived, the swims we were hoping to get were quickly taken by other angler‘s. We walked around the reservoir and finally came to a decision of what swim to pick. With open water and an oxygen generator to the left hand side, we seemed to have more confidence in the swim so we set up for a hopeful day’s fishing.

We both decided to cast into the open water past the oxygen generator as it would be warmer nearer the middle because the water being pumped from the generator was very cold so the fish would not be feeding around it.

Pellets were our approach, we both fished a small 8mm bloodworm pellet attached to the hair and Dan decided to use p.v.a bags filled with 3mm feeding pellets whilst Dave soaked 3mm pellets and cage fed them out.

It wasn’t long until Dave got his first bite, so we stared patiently at his alarm and after 30 seconds of doing so, the line from his reel screamed off, Dave set the hook and he was in to the first fish of our session! After two or three minutes of fighting, Dave brought him onto the bank. A nice little 3-4lb Common Carp.

After half an hour of Dave catching that fish, he was into another one and what a fight it was giving him! The fish was taking line continuously, tearing from left to right but it was only a matter of time before Dave got him into the net. We laid the Carp on the mat and chunky it was! It weight 7lb 2oz, what a fantastic fish.

Although Dave was having all the luck, Dan hadn’t heard any slight beep from his alarms whatsoever. He couldn’t decide if he was fishing the wrong method, or simply if the Carp were just not near where his bait is. Dan was giving up all hope.

Out of the blue, Dan got his first bite of the session which brought back his confidence again. He waited silently behind his rods and after 10 minutes his alarms went out of control and it seemed that both of  his rods had fish attached to them! Dan set the hook on one rod whilst Dave on the other! It only took us both one or two minutes to net the fish so we took a few photos and put them back. We both looked at each other and laughed! That brings it to a 2-2 draw, Although it was no competition!

As the day moved on we were getting constant bites. It was going well for us on our first Carp session of 2012 but we wanted that ‘big’ fish that we had been looking for the whole day. Dan decided to change his bait presentation, so he added a yellow tutti fruity pop-up sweetcorn underneath his pellet just for more visibility in the water. Dan cast his rod back in the same place he’d been fishing the day.

Dan had walked off to the swim next to him to ask the other fisherman what they were fishing with. After two minutes of his rod being in, the alarm beeped and line from his reel was screaming off! Dave had no choice but to set the hook. Dan came running back and Dave passed the rod over to him. He was into something big. Dan had been fighting the fish for around seven minutes now and still the fish had enough energy to take more line! After ten minutes, Dan finally got the fish into the net and it was certainly the biggest fish of the session so far. It weighed 10lb 5oz of pure muscle. What a fish.

As Dan’s change of adding a yellow tutti fruity pop-up sweetcorn paid off, Dave decided he wanted to give it a go. It seemed that the fish were taking a liking to the sweetcorn probably because of the brightness of it in the water and we were getting constant bites from it.

The tables had turned and now Dan was getting all the luck and Dave not so much! Dan’s alarm had roared off again and he was in for another big fight. “This one is definitely a lump!” Dan Said. As it came to the surface, we noticed Mirror scales along it’s side and Excitingly it was a Mirror! The fisherman say it is rare to catch Mirror’s at Holme Grange and it was Dan’s first Mirror there! After a long and hard fight, It was in the  net and quickly into the weighing sling! It Came to a whopping 1llb exact! What a fish it was and sad to see it go.

Dave was now itching for a big carp so he brought both his rods in and re-baited them. Not many fisherman around the Reservoir had caught any ‘bigguns’ so Dave’s confidence was dropping low. His rods had been in for almost 15 minutes and still he awaited a bite.

It seemed that Dan had just passed all of his luck to Dave as Dave’s rod screamed off and he was in! Dave was very happy, he didn’t want to lose this fish as he knew it was going to be his biggest of the session. It didn’t take Dave long at all to bring the fish in as it seemed to of swam straight towards his net! We brought the fish to the mat and weighed him. Exactly the same as Dan, it came spot on, an 11lb Common Carp, Dave’s personal best! We put it back and watched it swim off, what a sight.

What a day it had been, Dan caught five which included a 10lb 5oz Common and an 11lb Mirror.  Dave had caught three which also included a 7lb 2oz Common and his personal best 11lb! A great day’s Carp fishing at a fantastic reservoir stocked with some really nice Carp. We knew it wasn’t going to be our last trip.

Southern based terminal tackle and accessory giants Atomic Tackle and North West based bait company Redeye Baits have put there heads together and forma an alliance to boost the number of Junior Anglers entering the angling scene in the North West. Their plan is to establish a solid relationship with local youth groups in the area and create a Youth Angling Development Academy. Once fully established, Y.A.D,A goal will be to educate youngsters from non angling backgrounds and teach them the skills required to fully appreciate the true benefits of being an angler and the hours of pleasure the sport can bring to anyone if approached in the right way.

 

Redeye Baits founder, Karl Worthington, how this all came about, ‘At Redeye Baits we are fond believers in giving something back to the sport that has given us so much pleasure over the years. So we spoke to UKMA marketing development team for some guidance and advice, who in turn introduced us to the team at Atomic Tackle. Having formed a relationship, we intend to build our company reputation around being a pro-active member of the North West angling community. Through this local interaction, we will hopefully establish Redeye Baits, Atomic Tackle and any other brands associated to this ventures reputations to a point that the venture becomes successful and profitable for all parties concerned’.

 

Atomic Tackles front men Simon Healy and Tom Dale said ‘We don’t believe in sponsoring youth anglers as they do not have enough experience to justify the investment but we do believe that without collaborations like this that bring youngsters into the sport, then the future for our sport is looking bleak’. Simon continued ‘This is the perfect opportunity to improve our brands image in the North West whilst building a solid foundation for the sports future in this area’.

 

Yesterday was brilliant!
Anglers Profile Held the first ever online treasure hunt event in the history on fishing! also breaking another record for giving 76 prizes away in 3 hours, not only has no fishing website done this but has been able to organize something so big in such short time.
Anglers Profile at 11pm via the Facebook page ace announced “COMPETITION TIME! TREASURE HUNT! " as the message was spread it ended up being on 40 different high profiles, the aim was for you to find the missing treasure chests that captain jack had lost on his journey looking around AP, first you had to sign up get familiar with the site and wait for 3pm when the hunt began. There were 117 chances to win something and 500 in it to win it! Also there was the Lost Diamond, fallen Ruby, Wicked Emerald, Juicy Gold Brick, these were top prizes and if you found it, you were laughing guaranteed! After 2 hours the diamond was found by Mike Hall who was more than happy to shout out on the wall "IVE FOUND IT!" although he said he was so excited filling the form in before everyone else he didn’t have a clue what he had won! Second top contender was young Coxy he wouldn’t stop nagging for tips and fair play was searching high and low, he found the ruby which the clue was "there’s a ghost behind you" coxy discovered the ruby was behind the word you, and then the biggest laugh of the night had to be taddy, he was on the search for the emerald he took all the clues got to the carp channel looked all over just to find it was in front of him all the time it was in the position the ap logo would be :'D  and to all you others who found chests and won bags of bait and dvd's and clothes well done!

 This year I must say I am really looking forward to hitting all events head on and and fishing experiences, I have not missed a thing yet and as a team we are getting anglers profile started now for the members that have been here for a while will be think huh? but the fact is AP has had a long beta trial and afte ironing out our biggest crease end of last year which was all of that stupid daiting website traffic we kept getting we are now proud to say anglers profile is the UK's Official Fishing Social Network and Europes Largest :) so lets crack on!

Last Week:
Anglers Profile Signed a Deal with online fishing TV so they would start supplying prizes every month for the site, the first prize is a dynamite bait kit and some DVD's of chilly on carp, this will ensure that 2012 Anglers Profile is able to offer you nonstop competitions but this year we are still trying to put together a more professional way of doing these comps which will end up just being "send your pic in and we judge it" haha.

Last week I spoke to the Vice Chairman of the federation of welsh anglers, we discussed some very interesting topics about wales and also have some great big plans for wales on the carp scene as it is neglected big time.

Myself Ben Keseru Phillips and Simon James travelled to Reading were Simon was my guest on the ever so popular Wellington Syndicate although you may not have heard of it, we come to an agreement that it is the best top lake in Britain if you want to say the "BEST!" but we'll leave that to you although you have to join a waiting list of 200 to get onto a lake with 50 members at £1500 a year but for the average fish being 40lb your all the way up to 52-54lb its worth a shout.

We arrived on the Thursday and finished on the Sunday 3 nights 4 days, every time we go we get this magical feeling and the anglers that are present are A* no matter which one of the 50 it is they are top dog...including myself ;) jokes, and because the last time I could make it to Wellie was last year I had was so out of touch with the methods I needed to quickly trawl some tips and tricks!

I will not give the results out now as there is a separate blog being written about this last weekend but keep your eyes peeled for it :D

Today:
Well today I will be in contact with a company by the name of Carp Balls ( www.carpballs.co.uk)

Online Fishing TV has asked us to build a new website under a new name on a different business ground.

A competition will be made up for the site.

I will be in contact with Jon Taylor the Vice Chairman from the federation of welsh anglers.

New Footage will be uploaded here of wellington before it hits its own website.
